Davis Matches Career-High with 19 Points as WPI Defeats Clark

Worcester, MA --- The trio of  Dani Davis (East Granby, CT), Theresa Logan (Southboro, MA) and Cindy Chelius (Northfield, NJ) totaled 49 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to pace the host WPI women's basketball team to a 74-53 victory against crosstown rival Clark in a NEWMAC women's basketball match-up on Tuesday evening. 

WPI is now 8-4 overall and moves to 4-2 in conference action while Clark dips to 7-4 on the season and 3-3 in NEWMAC play.

After Clark took the lead 9-8 with 15:39 to go in the first half, a layup by Logan gave the Engineers an advantage that they would never relinquish the rest of the way. WPI saw its lead increase to as much as 11 on two occasions in the first half, the first on a three pointer by Haili Welton (Southbury, CT) midway through the half and the second on another trifecta, this one by Davis, with just under four minutes left in the half.   The Engineers led 34-26 at the break. 

The second half saw the Cougars get the lead back to single digits at 38-30 on an Emily Reilly (Marlboro, MA) layup at the 17:11 mark but that would be as close as the visitors would get. Rachel Pineda (Shrewsbury, MA) connected on a bucket giving WPI an 11 point lead with 13:07 remaining in the contest, and the hosts would see their lead remain in double digits the rest of the way. 

The Engineers saw three players in double figures. Davis lead the way with a career-equaling 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.  Logan totaled 18 points on the evening and was a  rebound shy of a double-double, hauling in a game-high nine rebounds. Chelius contributed 12 points while going a perfect 4-4 from the field. Pineda also contributed with a game-high four assists to go along with seven points while Kelly Morgan (Brookline, NH) registered nine points. 

The visitors were led offensively by Reilly who tallied 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Megan Grondin (Cumberland, ME) reached double figures on the night with 11 points whileBrooke Brennan (Weston, MA) paced the Cougar attack on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds. 

WPI closes out a five-game home stand at 7pm on Thursday, playing host to Mount Holyoke.  Clark returns home the same day to take on Smith at 5pm.
