WBB wins second straight with 65-57 triumph over Lyndon

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team had four players score in double-figures as it recorded a 65-57 victory over Lyndon Saturday in North Atlantic Conference play.

Senior Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine/Mt. Abram) led the way with a 14-point, 10-rebound effort and teammate Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine/Medomak Valley) added 11 points and two blocked shots. Elizabeth Ferry (Winslow, Maine/Winslow) had 11 points for UMaine-Farmington (2-8, 2-3 North Atlantic Conference) and two blocks while Holly Oliver (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Messalonskee) contributed 10 points and five steals.

Donna Lawson had 22 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals for the Hornets (4-5, 2-3) and Aimee Thompson tallied eight points to go along with six rebounds. Chelsea Bagley handed out four assists in the loss.

An 11-0 run in the first half vaulted the Beavers into a 17-6 lead by the 13-minute mark of the first half, following a Mallory Bonnevie (Jay, Maine/Jay) 3-pointer. UMF eventually stretched its advantage to 35-19 by halftime.

In the second half, Lyndon State pulled to within one of UMF, 56-55, on a pair of Lawson foul shots with 2:57 showing. Farmington's Norton and Lyndon's Lawson traded jumpers to keep the margin at one point, but Norton converted on a traditional three-point play with 2:06 on the clock to extend the Beavers' lead.

The Hornets were held scoreless the rest of the way, while UMaine-Farmington picked up points at the line from Rachel Clement (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester), Oliver, and Ranquist to preserve the win.

UMaine-Farmington returns home to host Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Dearborn Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
