More news about: CCNY

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Returning to face the program that second-year head coach Jackee Meadow led to four NCAA Tournament appearances and two ECAC appearances, along with nine City University of New York Athletic Conference regular season championships, the Beavers showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with as CUNYAC play continues.

Down by as much as 19, CCNY chipped away at its deficit and cut Hunter's lead to one possession with just under a minute remaining but the rally was just short as the City College of New York (1-9, 1-4 CUNYAC) fell to Hunter College (3-7, 3-2 CUNYAC), 57-53, on Friday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Syreeta Williams began the 2013 campaign with her second double-double of the season as 15 of the junior's 19 points came in the second half. Williams finished with a season-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds while Bria Fisher registered her third double-double on the year with a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Beavers entered halftime with an 11-point deficit but a late rally, led by Williams' 15 points, cut Hunter's lead to one. The Beavers outscored Hunter, 31-24, in the second period.

Giovanna Blanco recorded six points and five rebounds in her Beavers debut and Sajidah Pressley added five assists, two block shots, three rebounds and seven points.

The Beavers entered halftime trailing by 11, 33-22, but came out strong in the second half to cut the Hawks lead to four.
