UW-Oshkosh didn't allow a point for nearly 11 minutes during its 61-41 triumph over UW-Superior on Thursday (Jan. 3) in Kolf Sports Center.

Trailing 15-14, the Titans scored 20 unanswered points to take control. UW-Superior (10-3/3-2 WIAC) was shut out for the last 9:33 of the first half and the opening 1:08 of the second period.

Katie Kitzke hit a free throw with 4:45 remaining for the 1,000th point of her career. She is the 18th woman in school history to reach the figure.

Just 30 seconds before Kitzke's milestone, UW-Superior's Connie Urmanski booked a lay-up to crack 1,000 career points.

UW-Oshkosh, which leads the league in scoring defense (51 points per game), held the Yellowjackets to 27 percent shooting overall (15-56). The WIAC's top scorer with an average of 19.1, Sally Linzmeier was held to a team-best nine points.

Kitzke tallied a game-high 13 points, while Heather Conroy posted 12 points and eight rebounds. The Titans (11-2/3-1 WIAC) also received 12 rebounds from Sarah Stecker and 10 points by Katelyn Kuehl.

UW-Superior held the upper hand in the first few minutes, taking an 8-4 lead on three-pointers by Kristen Nett and Allyssa Lindberg. After the Yellowjackets missed seven straight shots, Lindberg drained another triple for a 13-10 margin.

Conroy established herself late in the half, sinking two lay-ups and a jumper to put the Titans on top 26-15. Kitzke connected from long distance to gain a 31-15 lead before the break.

The Titans didn't let up after intermission, counting three-pointers by Kitzke and Megan Wenig to make it 40-25. The teams shot many of their free throws in the final nine minutes, including Urmanski's three-point play that cut the margin to 52-35.

Nett tallied nine points and three steals for the Yellowjackets, as Urmanski finished with seven points and Linzmeier grabbed nine rebounds. UW-Superior converted 3-of-17 tries (18 percent) from long range and 8-of-13 free throws (62 percent).

UW-Oshkosh shot 57 percent in the first half and finished at 49 percent for the contest (20-41). The Titans hit 46 percent (5-11) of their three-pointers and 67 percent (16-24) of their foul shots while taking the rebounding battle, 39-31.

UW-Oshkosh takes its seven-game win streak to UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Jan. 5).
