Burgoyne Records First Double-Double in No. 11 Thomas More's 81-40, Win at Geneva

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) - Sophomore forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds as the 11th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated Geneva College tonight (Wednesday, January 2, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Metheny Fieldhouse in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 11-1 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 5-0.  With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to a 4-0 lead when junior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a lay-up with 16:40 to play in the first half.  Geneva answered with a 7-5 run capped by a Heidi Mann three-pointer with 13:13 to play in the opening half to cut the lead to 9-7.  The Saints closed out the half on a 30-8 run to take a 39-15 lead into intermission when senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a three-pointer with 1:11 to play in the half.

The Saints opened the second half on a 34-17 run to increase the lead to 73-32 when Burgoyne made a lay-up with 4:34 to play in the game.  Geneva put together a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 73-38 with 2:04 to play in the game when Chelsea D'Urso made a three-pointer.  That would be as close as Geneva would come as Thomas More closed out game on an 8-2 run capped by a lay-up by freshman guard Kiley Bartels (Southgate, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with three-seconds to play in the game for the 81-40 victory.

Joining Burgoyne in double-figure scoring for the Saints was Long with a game-high 17 points, Kitchen with 13 poins and sophomore guard Sydni Wainscott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 12 points.  Senior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) and freshman forward Alexa Santamaria (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team in assists with four each.

The Saints remain on the road on Saturday (January 5) when they travel to Greenville, Pennsylvania to play Thiel College at 1 p.m.
