La Verne breaks century mark in win vs. Lake Forest

A perfect performance from the free throw line helped trigger the University of La Verne women's basketball team to victory in a 102-92 triumph over Lake Forest Saturday at the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas.

The Leopards used a decisive second half spurt while also connecting all 21 of its free throw attempts against the Foresters.

La Verne held a 47-44 advantage at the break and led throughout the second half, but by just one (68-67) with 11:41 to play in the period.  The Leos then proceeded on a 20-5 run, capped by a Shannon Irwin 3-pointer and a Tyne McClure layup to grab a 89-72 cushion with 8:26 left.  

Lake Forest trimmed the deficit to seven with less than three minutes on the clock but would get no closer as the Leopards pulled away in the final stages to eclipse the 100-point mark for the fourth time in their last five games.

Megan Musashi paced the Leopard offense with 22 points, collecting three three-point field goals along with a 5-of-5 effort from the free throw line.  Lindsey Foster also went 5-of-5 from the charity stripe en route to an 18-point performance to go along with a team-high 9 rebounds. 

The Leopards were also bolstered by a strong overall effort by Amanda Copas, who posted 15 points, pulled down 8 boards and registered 6 steals in the victory.

A total of 12 La Verne players scored, including six players who tallied 6 points each.
