Women's Basketball Loses to Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated by Junita College 78-46 in the opening round of the Juniata College Annual Holiday Tournament on Friday evening.
 
With the loss, John Jay falls to 4-5 this season, while Juniata College improves to 7-3. John Jay will now face Farmingdale State College in the consolation game of the tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m. while Juniata will vie for the championship against King's College at 4 p.m.
 
In Friday's game, John Jay was led by Victoria Story with 11 points and three assists, while Jamecia Forsythe added eight points, 14 rebounds and one block. Amber Villegas had seven points and four assists in the contest. Juniata College was led by Kelsey Livoti with 14 points and eight rebounds.
 
The host Eagles led the entire contest. Juniata opened the game scoring the first six points en route to leading from start to finish. Juniata led by as much as 19 in the first half and led by that margin at halftime. The Eagles closed out the opening stanza scoring the last five points in the final three minutes to take a 41-22 lead at the break.
 
In the second half, Juniata never led by less than 16. The Bloodhounds opened the final stanza scoring the first three points to cut the deficit to 16, before Juniata rallied off a 10-0 run to go up 26 and lead 51-25 with 16:19 remaining. The Eagles extended the lead to 30 with 13:24 remaining as Juniata was up 57-27 at that point.
 
Juniata held a 41-27 advantage in rebounding and held a 24-10 advantage on second chance points. The Eagles also held a 34-6 advantage on points in the paint.
 
Saturday's match up against Farmingdale State will mark the second time this season the Bloodhounds will play the Rams. The two schools met in the St. John Fisher tournament on Nov. 25 with Farmingdale State winning that contest 49-47.
