McGrath leads St. Vincent past Denison

Behind 28 points and 13 rebounds from Devin McGrath, Saint Vincent defeated Denison University by the score of 58-50 in Las Vegas.

In the first half Saint Vincent kept an early 15-14 lead thanks to McGraths's six points.Jessica Welch and Taylor Mathers added three and two, respectively.

At the 6:06 mark, the Bearcats extended their lead with a 10-2 run, again led by McGrath with six. Senior Jordan Clinton and sophomore Jessica Hentrel added two each. The score was 27-17 with 3:38 to play in the half, but Denison would cut the Bearcat lead to four, 29-25, at halftime.

The second half for Saint Vincent started strong with a 11-8 run, once again with McGrath's six leading the charge. Clinton also added four and Hentrel two.

Late in the game, Saint Vincent led 50-42 with Denison trying to shorten the deficit. However, Melissa Mansur's steal and basket gave the Bearcats momentum and the double digit lead. In the final five minutes the Big Red went on a run to cut the lead to four at 54-50, but the Saint Vincent defense held strong, with a key steal by Mansur leading to a score by McGrath to put the game out of reach.

Behind McGraths outstanding performance, Clinton totaled 8 points along with 7 rebounds. Hentrel added 7 points, and sophomore Ally Schmidt tallied 5.

With the win, the Bearcats improved to 7-3 on the season. They have Saturday off, and play next on Sunday when they take on Coe College at 10am Pacific Time, 1pm Eastern Time. The game will be broadcast on the Saint Vincent Sports Network.
