Daytona Beach, Fla. – Marymount University's women's basketball team erased a 12-point second half deficit to rally and defeat Fontbonne 48-47 in the Daytona Beach Shootout Finale on Thursday afternoon. Katelyn Fischer's layup with 26 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Saints move to 9-3 overall on the season.
Tynisha Parks led the Saints with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
Fischer added 14 points to go with five rebounds and four assists for the Blue and White.
Marymount led early before Fontbonne put together a 16-4 run over an eight minute span to lead 25-12 at the 6:33 mark. The Griffins would extend their lead to 15 before eventually taking a 33-21 lead going into halftime.
Opening the second half on a 16-5 run over the first 10 minutes, the Saints cut their deficit to just one on a layup by Parks. Marymount would regain the lead at the 8:03 mark after Fischer knocked down a three-pointer to go up 42-40.
Fontbonne answered back to take a 47-44 lead before a Parks field goal at the 2:45 mark and Fischer's game-winner put another tally in the win column for Marymount.
Samantha Voegtle led the Griffins with 17 points.
Marymount returns to action after the New Year as it travels to face Shenandoah on January 2.
