KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Defiance College women's basketball team extended its current win streak to six games on Tuesday evening with a comfortable 62-40 win over the Hornets of Kalamazoo College.

The Yellow Jackets dominated the contest against the Hornets from the opening tip, as DC reeled off the first 20 points of the game before Kalamazoo registered a point on the scoreboard. The Purple and Gold defense held the Hornets scoreless for the first ten minutes of the game, before Kalamazoo knocked down two free throws to end the drought.

The Hornets tried to climb back into the game after trailing by such a wide margin early. Kalamazoo scored 10-straight points to make the score a 20-10 DC advantage, but the Jackets responded by outscoring the Hornets 14-9 the rest of the half to go into the intermission leading 34-19. The 15-point lead was the largest of any game this season at halftime for Defiance.

The second half began with the Purple and Gold scoring the first seven points to increase the lead to 22 points. The Yellow Jackets coasted the rest of the way, as the Defiance lead never fell below 16 points for the remainder of the game and finished at 62-40.

The swarming Jacket defense stifled Kalamazoo all game, as Defiance relinquished the fewest amount of points of the season on Tuesday. DC held the Hornets to an abysmal 26.9 percent shooting from the floor and swiped a season-high 17 steals while forcing KC into 22 turnovers. All five Defiance starters registered at least two steals.

Defiance was led by senior Kim Comden, who continued her run of impressive performances with 20 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists. The center has scored 15 or more points in all six wins this season for the Purple and Gold.

Another Yellow Jacket that impressed on the evening was Hannah Harshman. The junior grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds while scoring six points, dishing out four assists and recording two steals.

The sixth-consecutive win moves the Yellow Jackets' season record to 6-3, their best start to a season since the 2006-2007 campaign. The six-game winning streak is the longest since the 2009-2010 season when DC registered eight wins in a row.

The team now gets over a week off for Christmas break before returning to action on Friday, December 28 for the Wittenberg Tournament. The Jackets will play the hosts Wittenberg in the first day at 2:15 p.m.
