ASHLAND, Wis. -- Alverno College's six-game road swing finally took a toll on the team as the Inferno was held to its season-low point total in a 47-41 nonconference loss to host Northland College on Sunday afternoon in in Kendrigan Gymnasium.

The Inferno shot under 22 percent in the contest, and made only three field goals in the opening period for a season-low 10 points in the half.

Alverno trailed 21-10 at the break, but grinded back to tie the game, 26-26, on a Kristen Speerschneider jumper with just over 8:30 to play.

However, the LumberJills (1-5) answered with a 5-0 run and stayed in front for the win in the team's first home game of the season.

Speerschneider was the Inferno's only scorer to reach double figures with a game-best 14 points on just 4-of-12 shooting, while Jamie Hoernke and Devon Gorman added eight points apiece.

Hoernke led all rebounders with 10, as the visiting Inferno had a 41-32 advantage on the boards, but could not use it to its benefit as the team shot a measly 21.8 percent from the field, compared to the LumberJills' 33.3 percent.

Sara Hoge came off the bench to lead Northland with 12 points.

The defeat drops the Inferno's record to 5-5, as the team has yet to have back-to-back wins or losses this season.

Alverno will have 12 days off over the holiday break until its first home contest in over a month versus Trinity Christian College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
