KIRKLAND - Host Northwest University overcame a seven-point halftime deficit on Friday night to hand Pacific Lutheran a 70-56 non-conference women's basketball defeat.

The win was the first of the season against seven losses for Northwest, while Pacific Lutheran remained winless in six contests.

Sophomore guard Andi Adams scored 13 of her career-high 20 points in the opening 20 minutes as the Lutes got off to a quick start, something that they hadn't done in recent games. Adams was 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point line, though the rest of the players missed nine attempts from beyond the arc in the half.

On the other end of the floor the Lutes were limiting their opponents to 25 percent shooting (9-for-35) and also getting the better of the rebounding battle.

What turned the game for Northwest was the three-point shot as the Eagles converted 7-for-10 from long range in the final 20 minutes. In fact, two of the players combined to shoot a perfect 7-for-7 from beyond the arc in the final period. Domi Mendezona, who led all players with 23 points, hit all four of her three-pointers and Alyssa Dario was 3-for-3.

Dario ended up scoring 17 points and Corinne Burke added 12 for Northwest.

Adam had an excellent all-around game for Pacific Lutheran. In addition to scoring 20 points she pulled down eight rebounds and had four steals. Samantha Potter recorded her third consecutive double-double of the campaign with 11 points and 13 rebound, eight of which came o the offense end. Austin Schorno, starting in place of the injured Kara Sherman for the second straight game, passed out six assists to lead all players.

PLU shots just 31 percent (22-for-72) from the field, including 6-for-27 from long range, while Northwest ended up connecting on 40 percent (25-for-62) of its shots and 45 percent from beyond the arc.

The Lutes return to action at 6 p.m. Saturday when they host Concordia-Portland in Olson Auditorium.
