Strong Second Half Lifts Elmhurst Past Webster

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team evened its record at 3-3 after a strong second half lifted the Bluejays to a 62-43 win over Webster University.

Elmhurst led from start to finish as the Bluejays scored the game's first six points and never looked back. The Bluejays built a quick 13-2 lead, but failed to take advantage of poor shooting from Webster (3-5) to extend their lead. The Gorloks opened the game shooting only 1-of-18 from the floor. Webster used an 11-2 run over seven minutes to pull to within two points (15-13) with 3:36 left in the opening half. The Bluejays pushed their lead back to six points and carried a 21-18 lead into the locker room at halftime..

The Bluejays came out firing in the second half, quickly building an 11-point lead just four minutes into the half. Leading by 10, the Bluejays used a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to open up a 21-point lead. Elmhurst pushed its lead up to 24 points and cruised to the 19-point victory.

The Bluejays finished the contest shooting 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (13-of-26) in the second half. After struggling from three-point range in the opening half (1-of-10), the Bluejays caught fire in the second half, knocking down 6-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc.

Webster shot only 22.4 percent (13-of-58) from the floor, including just 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from beyond the arc.

Fiona McMahon flirted with a triple-double to lead the Bluejays in the win. McMahon totaled 10 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds while also blocking eight shots. Tess Godhardt scored a game-high 16 points while shooting 7-of-14 from the floor. Godhardt added six rebounds and four assists in the win. Devin Vaughn finished with 13 points, four assists, three steals, and three blocks. Claire Monroe added secen points while Whitney Shaffer came off the bench to knock down a pair of three-pointers. Karen Senette finished with five points, five rebounds and four assists for the Bluejays.

Webster was led by Maggie Zehner's 15 points. Courtney Prusley added 11 points and a team-leading seven rebounds for the Gorloks.

Elmhurst hosts Edgewood College on Tuesday (December 11) night.
