Young Leads Rams over Purchase

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) led the Farmingdale State women's basketball team with 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 76-38 win over Purchase tonight in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams (3-3) improved to 2-0 in the Skyline, while the Panthers (1-6) fell to 0-2 in conference play.

In the first half, neither team led by more than four points until the 9:55 mark when Farmingdale State used a 10-0 run to take a 22-12 advantage and would lead the rest of the way. Sophomore guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) had a game-high eight first half points, as the Rams took a 31-19 lead into the break.

Merrill finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) had four points and a team-leading 13 rebounds.

For Purchase, senior forward Jalisa Fields (Bronx, N.Y.) led the way with 14 points and 14 boards, while sophomore guard Lineker St. Hilaire (Wyandanch, N.Y.) tallied eight points and 13 rebounds.

The Rams take a three week break before the Juniata Tournament in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania on December 28-29, where they face Kings (Pa.) on December 28 at 5:30 p.m.
