CASTINE, MAINE -- Courtney DuFour scored a career-high 23 points to lead Maine Maritime to a 56-37 win over Husson in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Tuesday. DuFour's points came on seven three's -- which tied a program record -- and a pair of free throws and MMA improved to 2-2 overall, 1-0 NAC. The Eagles fell to 0-3, 0-1.
Leah Jackson added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Mariners while Victoria McIntyre paced Husson with 22 points and nine boards.
The Mariners jumped out to an 8-4 lead before a layup from Chrissy Larrabee and a three by McIntyre gave Husson a 9-8 lead with 13:41 left in the opening half. MMA answered with an 11-0 run, spanning six minutes, to lead 19-9 with 7:16 left. Hanna Lyons started the run with a layup, Jackson and Jillian Perron drained a free throw each, DuFour knocked one in from downtown and Jackson finished the run with consecutive layups. Free throws from Riley Boyle cut MMA's lead to 19-11 before the Mariners closed out the half with a 12-3 scoring run to lead 31-16 at halftime. DuFour scored five in the run for MMA, Alexis Bennett three and Bekah Campbell and Jackson two each.
Husson opened the second half with nine unanswered point -- seven by McIntyre and two from Chrissy Larrabee -- to get within six, 31-25, with 16:35 left in the game. Kari Jones' three a minute later put MMA ahead by nine and Mariners lead never went below 11 the rest of the game.
The Mariners return action Friday hosting Green Mountain at 5:30 p.m.
