Whitworth Keeps Caltech At Bay

LOS ANGELES, CA – Playing their second game in two days to open the season, the Caltech women's basketball team lost 105-26 to Whitworth on Saturday afternoon.

The game was hosted by Occidental as part of the Caltech/Occidental Thanksgiving Classic.

Whitworth could do no wrong as they shot better than 50 percent in each half in posting the win. The Pirates scored nearly half their points down low as they held a 52-6 edge in points in the paint.

The Pirates defense forced Caltech into 34 turnovers as they held a 45-4 edge in points off of turnovers.

Whitworth placed six players in double figures led by Kendra Lahue's 16-point afternoon.

Stephanie Wong posted her second straight double figure scoring effort to start her Caltech collegiate career. The first-year scored 15 points on the strength of a 4-for-5 effort from behind the arc.

For her efforts over the two-day, four-team event Wong was named to the all-tournament team.

Caltech will start SCIAC play on Thursday evening when they host Redlands at 7:30 p.m.
