PASADENA, CA – Brittany Oster recorded a double-double by scoring a game high 19 points while grabbing 11 rebounds in aiding the University of Redlands to a hard fought 70-49 win over Caltech on Thursday evening.

"Although we didn't pull out the win, I thought we did a lot of great things tonight. It was a tremendous improvement from where we have been. If we continue to improve at this pace we are going to be in a good space," said head coach Sandra Marbut. "As the first-years get more seasoned we can play with anyone."

After the Beavers opened up a quick 8-2 lead less than 2:30 into the contest, Redlands responded with a 16-0 scoring spurt to grab a 18-8 lead with 12:00 minutes left until the halftime horn.

Ninety seconds later Caltech spurted back and got their deficit back to single digits at 20-14 on a Rachel Hess jumper. However, the Bulldogs were able to massage their lead back into double digits as they took a 34-22 advantage at the intermission mark.

Redlands stretched their lead to a 15-point spread at 44-29 less than five minutes in the frame. However, a pesky Caltech squad chipped away. A Hess jumper got the Beaver deficit down to single digits at 47-38 with 10:56 remaining. Unfortunately for the home squad that was as close as they would get down the stretch.

The Bulldogs kept their lead at double digits the remainder of the half as they pulled away for the win. The Bulldogs low post game played a role in the contest as the visitors held a 54-36 rebounding advantage.

Ashley Sevilla chipped in an 11-point performance in 28 minutes of action to aid in the win.

Caltech spread the offense around as four different players scored at least eight points. Hess had team bests in points (9) and rebounds (7) while Esther Du, Stephanie Wong and Grace Leishman each had eight-point evenings.

The Beavers play one more conference game during the 2012 calendar year when they travel to Cal Lutheran on Saturday evening for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
