Box Score

The Yellowjacket women's basketball team has been a traveling show so far in 2012-13, and on November 28 put the perfect cap on its season-opening four-game road trip with its most impressive offensive performance of the season.

Only two players reached double figures, but the Yellowjackets shot over 50 per-cent from the field and all 20 players on the roster saw time as they cruised to a 21-point win, 76-55 over Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn.

It was another big game for Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders), who paced the Yellowjackets with 12 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 24 points.

Just over eight minutes into the first half and with the score tied at 11-11, the Yellowjackets seized the momentum and control of the game.  Britnee Blake (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) hit a jumper to break the tie and the Yellowjackets were off and running.  With a four-point lead, Linzmeier hit three straight baskets to put the lead in double digits for the first time in the game with 10:21 left in the half.  About three minutes later a Connie Urmanski (Edgar, Wis./Edgar) layup closed out the 15-0 run and saw the Yellowjackets leading 26-11.  The lead would grow as high as 19 in the first half, and the teams would go to the locker room with the Yellowjackets leading 34-21.

The second half offered more of the same, as the Yellowjackets continued to shoot the ball well and built a bigger lead.  A 13-5 run in the early going stretched the lead to 20 points.  The lead reached 22 points with just under six minutes to play and head coach Don Mulhern emptied his bench.  Freshman Carmen Watson (Milwaukee, Wis./James Madison) finished off a three-point play to make it a 25-point game with 5:26 to play.  Minutes later Allie Nelson (Augusta, Wis./Augusta) drained a pair of free throws to and the lead was a game-high 26 points.  Northwestern closed out the game on a 10-5 run to make the final score 76-55.

In addition to Linzmeier, Urmanski also hit double digits in scoring, dropping in 16 points, just two shy of 900 points for her career.  Urmanski currently sits 13th in school history is 35 points behind Maggie Dittburner for 12th on the all-time scoring list.  Deandra Vavra (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) scored six points and pulled down a team high 11 rebounds.  Watson, Blake and Kailee McDonald (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) all dropped in five points off the bench.

Linzmeier also had team highs in assists (5), blocks (1) and steals (8) in the game.

Chanel Madson led Northwestern with 12 points.

The Yellowjackets (3-1, 0-0 WIAC) will make their 2012-13 home debut on Saturday, December 1 when they play host to UW-Stevens Point.  The opening tip-off from Mertz Mortorelli Gym is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
