The UW-Superior Women's Basketball team lost their first game of the year, falling in a border battle against the UMD Bulldogs on November 20.

The Yellowjackets went on a 6-0 run to start the game when Hillary Peterson (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake) completed a three-point play and Kristen Nett (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) followed with a three-pointer. The lead would change multiple times throughout the first half, until UMD took control of the game with four minutes left. Deandra Vavra (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) would lead the Yellowjackets in the first half with 13 points while going five-for-six from the field. The Bulldogs would lead the Yellowjackets 40-32 at the half.

After shooting 41 per-cent as a team in the first half, the Yellowjackets struggled, shooting only 28 per-cent in the second. The majority of the Yellowjackets offense in the second half came from Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders) as she would post 15 points, while on the defensive end adding four steals. After not playing the first half, newcomer Grace Kennedy (Wausau, Wis./Newman Catholic) would come off the bench and contribute three steals in nine minutes.

The Yellowjackets (2-1, 0-0 WIAC) will be back on the road after the Thanksgiving break when they will travel to Roseville, Minn. to take on the Northwestern College Eagles (2-1, 0-0 UMAC) on Wednesday, November 28.  The opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
