WildCat Women's Hoops Stung By Emory & Henry College 69-49 Wednesday

EMORY, VA – Emory & Henry College put three players in double digits and forced Randolph into a season-high 33 turnovers as the Randolph College women's basketball dropped its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener to the Wasps 69-49 in action from the King Center Wednesday.

The WildCats (1-3/0-1 ODAC) led by one early after a Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) trifecta made the score 3-2 just 40 seconds into the game. With the game tied at seven, the hosts went on a 10-2 run, highlighted by five points from Karina Farr to take a 17-9 advantage. Randolph fought back to make the score 17-14, thanks to a three from first-year Abigail Bullins (Asheboro, NC/Asheboro).

Emory & Henry's defense would get stingy over the next six minutes, holding Randolph without a point while the Wasps went on a 16-0 run to make the score 33-14. The hosts continue to add on, taking a 24-point lead into the break.

The WildCats would outscore their opponents in the second half by four, but couldn't mount a comeback to earn the victory. Randolph was led by first-year center Lindsey Higgins (Harriman, TN/Harriman), who scored a career-high 10 points to go with a team-leading eight rebounds. Junior Emilee Dunton (Forest, VA/Brookville) nailed three from deep for nine points as well.

Sophomore center Megan Russell (Pinnacle, NC/West Stokes) chalked up six points and corralled six rebounds, while Tyler concluded her evening with six points and three rebounds. Randolph out-rebounded Emory & Henry 45-42.

Kristie Langley, the ODAC's leading scorer, posted 18 points on six-of-12 shooting, though the Wasps were spurred by the huge 16-point, 15 board double-double. JoBeth Wright scored 13 points, and Michelle Williams came off the bench to score seven points. Emory & Henry was sent to the line 31 times in the game, making 19 of the freebies.

Randolph will be back in action next Tuesday for the home opener, as the WildCats host Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m. December 4 from the Randolph Athletics and Dance Center.
