WHITEWATER, Wis. – There are certain to be wins in the future of the Edgewood College women's basketball team, but it wasn't meant to be on Saturday. Frankly, a win over the No. 8 ranked team in the nation on their home floor is a tall task for any team, as the Eagles discovered during an 83-39 defeat at the hands of UW-Whitewater. The Eagles fall to 0-4 on the season heading into their first conference game this week.

Edgewood College trailed 14-6 in the early going, before Melanie Walker answered with back-to-back buckets to bring the Eagles within four at 14-10. However, a 7-0 run put UW-Whitewater (3-1) back ahead by double digits. Alison Tobinscored a layup with six and a half minutes to go bring the Eagles back within 27-18, but the Warhawks ended the first half on a 13-1 run for a 40-19 halftime advantage.

A layup from Chelsey Watkins opened the second half, but the Warhawks remained in control. UW-Whitewater shot 44.1 percent from the field and held a 47-35 rebounding advantage.

Edgewood College's early season shooting woes continued, as the Eagles shot just 29.8 percent from the field and missed on all 10 of their three-point attempts. Walker led the way with 16 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Freshman Rachel Popeadded five points. Tobin led the Eagles on the glass with seven rebounds.

Edgewood College will look for their first win of the season in their Northern Athletics Conference opener on Wednesday. Marian University will host the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. in Sadoff Gymnasium.
