No. 23 Carthage Upends Beloit, 85-55, on Nov. 20

The Carthage College women's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 23rd in the Nov. 20 Women's Basketball Coaches Association/USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division III poll, upended Beloit College (1-2), 85-55, on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.

Carthage opened up an 11-point lead, 22-11, at 10:10.  The Lady Reds extended that margin 18 points just before the half, 40-22, and led by 16 at the break, 40-24.  A 26-16 start to the second period put Carthage up by 26 points, 66-40, at 10:47.  The Lady Reds led by as much as 39 points, 83-44, at 5:45 before coach Tim Bernero emptied the bench.

Carthage shot 44 percent (32-72), including five-of-16 three pointers, while Beloit shot just 38 percent (19-49) and hit on two-of-nine from three-point range.  The Lady Reds had a decisive, 47-31 rebounding edge over the Buccaneers, who turned the ball over 25 times to just 15 for Carthage.  The Lady Reds also collected 14 steals.

Four Carthage players scored in double figures.  Stephanie Kuzmanic (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Wheeling) scored a career and game-high 20 points on nine-of-11 shooting, along with two-of-two free throws, five rebounds, a career-high seven assists and three steals.  Cailee Corcoran (Sr., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) scored 19 points on seven-of-12 field goals, along with five-of-six free throws, a game-high nine rebounds and three steals.  Haley Stercic (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Marist) had 14 points on four-of-eight three-pointers, and Kristi Schmidt (Jr., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-Community) chipped in 11 points and four boards.  Kandace Fox topped Beloit with 16 points and five rebounds, while Lauren McNanna had 12 points.

On Sunday, Nov. 25, the Lady Reds entertain No. 27 the University of Chicago Maroons (1-1) in a 2 p.m. contest at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
