Brooklyn Falls to #15 Amherst

Amherst, MA --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team fell to #15 Amherst College, 67-42, on the opening day of the Amherst College Tip-Off Tournament. Brooklyn drops to 0-1 to start off the season, while Amherst moves to 1-0 to begin the year.

The Bulldogs will now take on Farmingdale State College in the consolation game on Sunday, as Farmingdale lost to William Patterson, 76-43, in their matchup on day one of the tournament.

BC was led by senior Trina Payne's team-high 13 points coming off the bench, while classmate Brittany Bowen added 12 points, three assists and three steals for Brooklyn. Senior Tiffany Thompson grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, while junior Vanessa D'Ambrosi chipped in with eight rebounds and four points.

Bridget Crowley paced Amherst with 22 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs, for the double-double. Megan Robertson chipped in with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Savannah Holness added 11 points and six rebounds coming off the bench.

The Lord Jeffs began the game on a 7-0 run to start off the half, as Amherst never relinquished the lead. Trailing by 10, 13-3, with 15:27 remaining in the half, Brooklyn cut its deficit to two, 19-17, at the 6:54 mark of the opening period. That's as close as the Bulldogs would get, as Amherst rebuilt its advantage back to double digits, eventually taking a 15-point, 38-23, advantage into the halftime break.

Amherst would continue to control the game in the second half, as they held BC to just 19.2% (5-26) shooting in the half. The Lord Jeffs outscored the Bulldogs 29-19 in the second half en route to their 67-42 victory.

For the game, Brooklyn shot 22.4% (15-67) from the field and 12.5% (2-16) from three. The Bulldogs also shot 76.9% (10-13) from the line. Amherst shot 42.9% (30-70) from the field and 15.0% (3-20) from behind the arc. The Lord Jeffs also shot 50.0% (4-8) from the free throw line.

Amherst won the battle of the glass outrebounding BC 58-40.
