NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – UMass-Dartmouth women's basketball team defeated visiting UMaine-Farmington, 71-50, in the second round of the 2012 UMass-Dartmouth Basketball Classic, at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday.

The Corsairs' Erica Batchelder came off the bench and ignited a 17-4 run, in which you started and ended it with a three pointer and buried one more in the middle to turn a 14-10 deficit into a 27-18 lead with just under seven minutes to go in the first half.

The Corsairs also dominated the post play as Erika Bornemann and Colleen Moriarty combined for 35 points on 14 of 27 shooting from the field and 21 rebounds.

The Corsairs only turned the ball over once in the first half en route to a 37-24 lead at intermission.

The Beavers (0-2) opened the second half with a purpose, cutting the Corsairs' lead to just 4 points at 41-37 with 15:25 left in the contest.  UMaine-Farmington nailed three baskets from beyond the arc as part of a 11-2 run by the Beavers, leading to a Corsairs timeout.  Holly Oliver (Belgrade Lakes, Maine/Messalonskee), Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine/Mt. Abram) and Rachel Clement (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) all nailed treys for the Beavers in their run. 

UMD (2-0) answered right back with a jumper from Moriarty, a lay up from Shannon Singletary and a trifecta from Bornemann, swelling the lead back to double digits at 48-37. 

Maine-Farmington would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way and the Corsairs locked in their second win of the young season when Beth Castantini drained back to back three pointers to give the Corsairs an insurmontable lead at 63-47 with just over four minutes left. 

The Corsairs were led  by Bornemann who had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Moriarty and Batchelder joined in her double digits in the scoring column with 17 and 16 respectively, while Kelsey Garrity joined her in the rebounding department with 10 boards. 

Oliver led the Beavers with 14 points while Norton chipped in with 10 points. Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine/Medomak Valley) led UMaine-Farmington on the boards with six rebounds. Oliver was the lone UMaine-Farmington selection to the All-Tournament Team.

UMaine-Farmington returns to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when it travels to Standish, Maine, to face St. Joseph's College of Maine. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
