Newark, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team had its season ended in the Semifinals Round of the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday. The #4 seed Bulldogs fell to top seeded Rutgers-Newark by a score of 59-45.

BC finishes the season with a 22-8 overall record. The 22 wins set a new record for wins in a season in women's basketball program history.

The first 10 minutes of the opening half featured a tight contest with various ties and lead changes. After a layup from senior Justine O'Callahan gave Brooklyn a 12-9 lead at the 9:40 mark, the host Scarlet Raiders used a 21-6 run to close out the half and head into the halftime break with a 30-18 advantage.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball in the half, as BC shot 20.6% (7-34) from the field, including going 0-for-9 from three. Rutgers-Newark shot 26.8% (11-41) from the field, but converted on 5-for-13 (38.5%) from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs came out of the intermission break determined to get back into the game, as BC used an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to four, 30-26, with 16:43 remaining in the game. Junior Charnelle Saint Laurent scored five of the eight points in the run.

Brooklyn would continue to chip away at their deficit and eventually regain the lead on a layup from senior Lauren Plagainos, which put the Bulldogs ahead for the first time since O'Callahan's bucket in the first half, 36-34, with 13:49 left in the game.

After a three-pointer from freshman Nicole Francomano tied the game at 39 all, the Scarlet Raiders used an 8-0 run to go up 47-39, with 7:28 remaining before the final buzzer. Rutgers-Newark would never relinquish its lead from there on out, as the home team would go on to take the 59-45 victory.

Saint Laurent led Brooklyn with a team-high 10 points, while Francomano finished with nine points and five assists. Senior Melissa St. Louis grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while adding seven points. O'Callahan shipped in with eight points.
