LVC Runs Past Mount Saint Mary Into the Sweet 16

ANNVILLE, Pa. - #17 Lebanon Valley used a 17-0 run to create permanent separation against Mount Saint Mary in a game the Dutchmen went on to win, 70-53.

Freshman point guard Kiely Chaklos hit two three-pointers and a layup in the run and finished the night with 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Her three total three-pointers set a career high.

The Knights (28-4) led through much of the first half but were overtaken at the 6:32 mark. The Dutchmen (29-3) took full control and outscored their opponents 48-30 over the final 26 minutes, including the run.

It was another banner night for the Dutchmen backcourt, as Tierney Hiltz fell a board short of a double-double at 16 points and nine rebounds.

Renee Fritz and Liz Borgia both reached double-digit scoring with 15 and 13, respectively. Fritz shot 7-for-10 from the field, matching a season-high in field goals.

LVC won the battle of the boards by outrebounding the Knights, 35-27. In typical fashion, the Dutchmen scored 36 points in the paint.

At 55.8 percent, this was LVC's best shooting performance of the season. The previous mark was set in a 53.6 percent performance at Albright on Jan. 21.

Jen Mokanu led the Knights with a game-high 24 points after dropping 30 on Gwynedd-Mercy Friday night. Amanda Horvers scored 12 points. Kate Hartnett led the defense with seven rebounds.

The win sends the Dutchmen back to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Championship tournament next weekend. LVC will face Mary Washington, who beat Messiah, 53-50, in the second round. The site will be determined upon completion of this weekend's games.

The Dutchmen are in the tournament for the third consecutive season. Last season, they went as far as the Elite Eight, where they were eliminated by Christopher Newport.
