IWU Women Breeze Past Millikin in CCIW Semifinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Led by the 27 point performance by senior Olivia Lett, the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team took a 96-74 win over Millikin on Friday (Feb. 24) and will host Carthage in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament finals in quest of their fifth straight title.

With seven straight wins, the No. 16-ranked Titan women improved to 21-5 overall and face the Lady Reds (20-6) at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 25). No. 3 seed Carthage was a 70-64 winner over No. 2-seed Wheaton in Friday's earlier game.

Junior Melissa Gardner scored 14 points and junior Michelle Bilek added 11 in the win.

The Titans shot .492 from the field (32 of 65) and made 6 of 17 from 3-point range (.353). With Lett making 11 of 11 free throws, the Titans shot .867 from the line (26 of 30).

IWU handily won the rebound battle 40-29 with 17 coming on the offensive glass. Senior Karen Solari had 10 rebounds.

Millikin, who was guilty of 27 turnovers, got 19 points from both Heather Pruemer and Cecily Aldridge as their season ended with a 15-11 record.
