Top-Seeded Thomas More Defeated Eighth-Seeded Grove City, 70-47, in PAC Quarterfinals

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Sophomore guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) and junior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) both scored 15 points to lead the top-seeded Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 70-47 win over eighth-seeded Grove City College tonight (Tuesday, February 21, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal round game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 22-4 overall and advance to play fourth-seeded Bethany College on Friday (February 24) at 8 p.m. in a semifinal game at the Connor Convocation Center.  With the loss, the Wolverines end the season at 7-19.

Grove City jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Leah Gibson made a jumper with 18:59 to play in the first half.  Thomas More answered with a 9-0 run to take a 9-2 lead on a Long three-pointer with 15:53 to play in the half.  The Wolverines responded with a 9-4 run to cut the lead to 13-11 when Sadi Malone made a three-pointer with 9:36 to play in the opening half.  The Saints put together an 8-2 run to extend the lead to 21-13 with 4:21 to play in the half when Long made a three-pointer.  Grove City answered with a 9-2 run capped by a Malone three-pointer to cut the lead to 23-22 with 1:12 to play in the half.  Thomas More closed out the half on a 6-0 run to take a 29-22 lead at halftime when Long made a three-pointer with 25-seconds to play in the first half.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 6-1 run capped by a lay-up by sophomore forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) to increase the lead to 35-23 with 17:39 to play in the game.  Grove City responded with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 37-29 with 15:21 to play in the game when Gibson made a jumper.  The Saints answered with a 19-7 run to extend the lead to 53-36 when Beasley made a three-pointer with 7:40 to play in the game.  Grove City responded with a 4-0 run capped by an Alicia Maust lay-up with 6:07 to play in the game.  That would be as close as Grove City would come as Thomas More closed out the game on a 14-7 run for the 70-47 victory.

Three other Saints joined Beasley and Long in double-figure scoring as senior guard/forward Lauren Hargett (Verona, Ky./Walton-Verona) finished with 13 points, while Corey and junior forward/center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) each had 11 points.  Kees led the team on the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds to complete a double-double.  Long and junior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) led the team in assists with six each.
