CASTINE, Maine – Sam Goda (Eliot, Maine) posted her ninth double-double of the season to lead Maine Maritime to a 64-56 win over Lyndon State in North Atlantic Conference play Friday evening. Goda was one of four Mariners (12-12, 9-8) to finish in double figures in completing the season sweep of the Hornets (9-15, 7-10 NAC).

Goda posted 14-points and 14 rebounds, securing 10 caroms in the first half. The Mariners' senior went 8-of-9 at the line and knocked down three shots from the floor. She also blocked four shots and assisted on three buckets. Maggie Smith (Bath, Maine) led all scorers with 17 points to go with seven rebounds. Leah Jackson (Dedham, Maine) posted a 10-point, 10-rebounds double-double, while Crystal Clark (Chelsea Maine) gave the Mariners 12 points from the bench.

Lyndon got 16 points from Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.), while Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Lawson blocked a pair of shots and assisted on three more.

Maine Maritime was solid from the floor in the first half hitting 12-of-21 (57.1%) shots. A 15-4 run midway through the first half saw the Mariners nail 6-of-7 shots to build a 22-11 lead, the largest of the period. The Hornets got close a handful of times, but never managed to tie or regain the lead the rest of the way. Lyndon responded to the Mariners' run with a run of its own, sparked by a White trey. She scored eight points over the final six minutes of the first half, helping her team get back within three, 30-27.

The Mariners stretched the lead to as many as 16 points in the second half at the end of a 16-2 run that saw Goda score half of her 14 points on the night, but the Hornets refused to go away quietly. Chelsea Watson (Eliot, Maine) clicked on a pair of free throws with 7:27 remaining to make it 55-41, starting a 9-0 run that made it 55-48. Lawson accounted for five points in the stretch, getting three at the stripe. The Hornets never got closer than seven. Maine Maritime hit on 7-of-12 free throws in the game's final two minutes to hold off the guests.

Maine Maritime closes out the regular season against Johnson State tomorrow. The Hornets face Husson on Saturday in Bangor.
