JWU Women's Basketball Downs Pine Manor, 77-43

Providence, R.I. The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball squad downed Pine Manor, 77-43 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.

JWU was led by sophomore Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) with 21 points and six rebounds while junior Marina Millian (Chester, N.Y.) notched 18 points, six rebounds and four rebounds.  Freshman Natalie DiCocco (Media, Pa.) was also in double figures with 11 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Wildcats.

Senior Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, Mass.) paced Pine Manor with 21 points and nine rebounds while freshman Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) had 12 points and three boards in the loss for the Gators.

Johnson & Wales took control of the game early and led 15-0 after a layup by Millian with 12:14 left in the first half.  The Wildcats led by as many as 23 points as a jumper by sophomore Samantha Hendrick (Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) with just over four minutes remaining in the stanza made the score 29-6.  JWU took the 34-16 lead heading into the locker room after holding Pine Manor to 23.5% shooting from the field while forcing 13 first half turnovers.

It was more of the same in the second half with the Wildcats pushing their lead to 29 points on a three-pointer by senior Kaitlyn Lefort (Pawtucket, R.I.), making the score 62-31 with 7:57 remaining.   JWU then cruised to the 77-43 victory.

With the victory Johnson & Wales improves to 10-14 overall and 6-6 in the GNAC while Pine Manor falls to 7-15 overall and 1-11 in league play.  The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 18th when they travel to Rivier in a GNAC contest at 3:00 p.m.
