Beavers jolt Johnson State

JOHNSON, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington pulled away in the second half to register a 64-44 victory over Johnson State College in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball action this afternoon at Carter Gymnasium.

The Beavers ran their record to 9-13 overall and 8-8 in the NAC. UMF is scheduled to host Husson University in NAC action Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The game is the Beavers' Play 4Kay event. The Badgers slipped to 4-18 (2-13).

Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) amassed 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Beavers, while Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) helped out with 14 points, five assists and five steals and Rachel Clement (Gray, Maine) also made five steals.

Bianca Stoutamyer (Madison, Maine) buried a pair of threes in the final minute before halftime to give UMF a 27-20 lead at the break and lead the Beavers to outscoring the Badgers 37-24 in the second half.

Andrea Deuell paced Johnson St. with 15 points and six steals followed by Brittany Robertson with 14 points.
