Long Leads Thomas More to a 75-68 Come-From-Behind Win Over Waynesburg

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) - Junior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 75-68 win over Waynesburg University today (Saturday, February 11, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 19-4 overall and 15-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 17-6 overall and 12-4 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to an early 13-9 lead with 12:10 to play in the first half when Long made a jumper.  Waynesburg answered with a 12-4 run capped by a two free-throws by Hannah Hunter to give the Jackets a 21-17 lead with 8:28 to play in the opening half.  The Saints responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead at 25-21 with 6:57 to play in the half when junior center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made a lay-up.  The Yellow Jackets put together an 11-3 run to build a 32-28 lead on a Hayden Giuliani three-pointer with 1:02 to play in the half.  Sophomore guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a lay-up with 49-seconds to play in the half to cut the lead to 32-30 at halftime.

The Saints opened the second half on a 10-5 run to take a 40-37 lead on a Long jumper with 15:55 to play in the game.  Waynesburg answered with a 4-1 run to tie the game at 41-41 with 15:07 to play in the game when Brittany Spencer made a lay-up.  Thomas More responded with a 23-11 to build a 64-52 lead when junior guard/forward Lauren Hargett (Verona, Ky./Walton-Verona) made a lay-up with 8:31 to play in the game.  The Yellow Jackets came right back with a 13-2 run to cut the lead to 66-65 on an Elaine Hasek three-pointer with 3:26 to play in the half.  Undaunted, the Saints closed out the game on a 9-3 run capped by two free-throws by junior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) with three-seconds to play in the game for the 75-68 victory.

Two other Saints joined Long in double-figures as Kitchen and sophomore guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) both scored 16 points.  Kees and sophomore forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) led the team on the boards as they each pulled down 10 rebounds and Brunsman led the team in assists with four.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday (February 15) when they Saint Vincent College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
