Balanced attack paces Thoroughbreds

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Clarkson with Tuesday night's 61-42 victory at the Williamson Sports Center.
 
The Thoroughbreds improve to 13-7 overall and 6-5 in Liberty League play, while the Golden Knights fall to 7-13 and 2-10.
 
Skidmore controlled the tempo in the first half, leading by as many as 12 after a Christina Gargiso three pointer with 6:20 left in the half.  Clarkson was able to trim the lead to six as the Thoroughbreds took a 29-23 lead into the break.
 
Skidmore opened the second half with an 11-0 run highlighted by seven points from Jordyn Wartts and capped off by a three-point play by Jessie Kavana, giving the Thoroughbreds a 19 point advantage.  The Golden Knights were able to get within 12 after a Marissa Pelosi three pointer but Skidmore closed out the game with a 10-3 run, securing the 61-42 win.
 
Three players scored in double figures for Skidmore, led by 11 points and 11 rebounds from Gargiso.  Kavana and Megan Gaugler finished with 10 points apiece, while Gaugler added seven assists and three blocks.
 
Carey Turner posted a game-high 16 points for Clarkson and Chrissy Scanlon added 14 points.  Brooke Butkovsky finished with a game-high 13 rebounds. 
 
The Thoroughbreds scored 16 points off 18 Golden Knight turnovers and outscored the Clarkson bench 17-1.
 
Skidmore returns to action on Friday night at William Smith.
