Maroons Overcome Halftime Deficit at Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Morgan Herrick scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the second half as the second-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team overcame a six-point halftime deficit en route to a 68-55 win over fifth-ranked University Athletic Association rival University of Rochester Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Chicago (20-0 overall, 9-0 UAA) extended the longest regular season winning streak in the NCAA Division III to 38 games and opened up a three-game lead in the UAA standings with five games left to play.

Game Summary

  • Chicago led 22-21 with 4:27 left in the first half, but Rochester ended the period on a 10-3 run to put the Yellowjackets up 31-25 at halftime.

  • Rochester (17-3, 6-3) remained on top until the 12:48 mark of the second stanza when a three-pointer from Taylor Simpson gave the Maroons a 42-40 edge.

  • Chicago steadily increased its lead until it reached double digits, 61-51, on a pair of free throws from Joann Torres with 1:30 left in the game.

  • Two Jodie Luther free throws trimmed Chicago's lead to 61-53 at the 1:19 mark, but the Maroons converted seven of eight free throw tries the rest of the way to seal the victory.

Statistical Highlights

  • Chicago outshot Rochester 58% to 22% from the field in the second half.

  • With her game-high 19 points, Morgan Herrick was one of three Maroons to net double figures. Meghan Herrick and Simpson added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

  • Kristyn Wright led the Yellowjackets with 12 points, while Luther contributed 11.

  • Chicago remained one of four undefeated teams in Division III.

  • Chicago won its 23rd straight UAA contest and improved to 29-1 in conference play since Feb. 5, 2010.

  • The Maroons overcame a halftime deficit for the fifth time this season and for the third time in nine UAA contests.

  • Chicago posted its fifth consecutive win over Rochester. Sunday's win gave the Maroons back-to-back series sweeps over the Yellowjackets for the first time since 1989-90.
