Long Leads Thomas More To An 89-65 Win Over Thiel

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Junior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to an 89-65 win over Thiel College today (Saturday, February 4, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 17-4 overall and 13-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 5-16 overall and 5-9 in the PAC.

Thiel jumped out to a 19-15 lead with 11:24 to play in the first half when Kate Reinsel made a jumper.  Thomas More answered with a 9-0 run to take a 24-19 lead when junior forward Rebecca Leffel (Troy, Ohio/Miami East) made two free-throws with 7:54 to play in the opening half.  The Tomcats responded with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 24-24 with 5:57 to play in the in the half when Ashley Davis made two free-throws.  The Saints closed out the half on a 22-6 run to take a 46-30 halftime lead when sophomore guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made one-of-two free-throws with 42-seconds to play in the half.

The Tomcats opened the second half on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 48-37 with 18:31 to play in the game when Kelly Muffley made a jumper.  Thomas More answered with a 37-17 run capped by a lay-up by sophomore guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 5:20 to play in the game.  Thiel closed out the game on an 11-4 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More earned the 89-65 victory.

Four other Saints joined Long in double-figures as Kitchen and Beasley both finished with 16 points, sophomore forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) added 14 points and junior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) had 10 points.  Corey led the team in rebounds with a game-high 16 for her third double-double of the year.  Beasley led the team in assists with five and Long led the team in steals with four.

Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (February 8) when it travels to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster College.  The game will tip-off at 6 p.m. inside the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
