WASHINGTON – CUA ran its win streak to six straight on Friday with a 69-60 victory over visiting Drew.  Three Cardinals reached double figures, including Katarina Owunna (18), Jenny McGann (16) and Emily Grabiak (10).  The win is Head Coach Matt Donohue's 60th since his arrival at CUA.

The Cardinals raced out to a 14-4 lead in the opening six minutes after McGann scored on a layup at the 13:46 mark.

The lead reached 12 on another McGann layup less than a minute later, but Drew reeled off an 8-0 run to pull within four at the 8:45 mark.

CUA responded with an 8-0 run of its own, including a Kelli Josephsen jumper at the 3:35 mark that put the Cardinals in front 24-12.

Victoria Ault splashed a jumper for the visitors on their next possession, but Emily Grabiak got free for a basket down the other end to again put the Cardinals up by a dozen.

Drew's Danielle Barber closed the half with a 5-0 run, which included an old-fashioned three-point play to pull the Rangers within seven at intermission.

The Rangers got to within five in the early going of the second, but CUA scored eight straight to open up a 38-25 lead with 16:52 remaining in the game.

The lead reached 14 on McGann's jumper at the 14:24 mark, but a basket by Barber and 3-pointer from Katherine Luby pulled the Rangers to within nine with 12:29 on the clock.

Holly Janicki drilled a 3-pointer at the 11:23 mark to put CUA in front by 12, but Luby's trifecta a minute later again got the Cardinals lead under double-digits.

Logan Cavanaugh got inside for a layup at the 5:56 mark as Drew closed to within seven, but a basket by Owunna and two Josephsen free throws pushed the lead up to 11.

CUA did a terrific job of protecting its lead in the final two minutes, sinking 5 of 6 free throws to earn win No. 17.

Owunna shot 8 of 13 from the floor for her team-high 18 points, and she also pulled down five rebounds.  Grabiak handed out a game-high 8 assists, while McGann finished with four steals.  The Cardinals also shot 79% at the free throw line, sinking 15 of 19 attempts.

Barber finished with a game-high 25 points to lead the Rangers, while Luby tossed in 17 of her own.  The Rangers shot just 36% from the field and turned the ball over 22 times.

On Saturday, CUA closes out its regular season home schedule when Merchant Marine Academy comes to town.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.  CUA will honor its lone senior, Holly Janicki, prior to the start of the game.
