Rensselaer Defeats Bard in League Game, 89-22

TROY, N.Y. – Three players reached double-figures in scoring for the Rensselaer women's basketball team, as it defeated Bard College, 89-22, in Liberty League action from East Campus Arena. With the win, the Engineers improve to 13-7 overall (7-4 Liberty), while the Raptors fall to 1-17 (0-9 Liberty).

The Engineers jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back, shooting over 60% from the floor in the first half to take a 50-10 lead at the break. Senior Hillary McKinley (Quinebaug, CT/Tourtellotte Memorial) had 15 points at the midway point, to lead all scorers. Freshman Joanna Regan (Selden, NY/Nefield) notched the Raptors first seven points of the game and finished with a team-best nine.

Rensselaer then recorded the first 18 points of the second half for a 68-10 lead. The Raptors battled back with five points midway through the second half, including a basket by junior Imani Jones (Brooklyn, NY/Fiorello LaGuardia).

Bard freshman Liz Freud (Dover, DE/St. Thomas More) answered a Sarah Wetmore (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury Regional) hoop with one of her own to make it a 73-18 game with 7:46 to play in the second half.

The two teams traded baskets in the final minute to bring the game to its final score. The Engineers shot 53% (39 for 74) from the floor, including 35% (6 for 17) from three-point range. McKinley finished with a game-high 15 points, while sophomores Kyleigh Oliveira (Agawam, MA/Agawam) and Meg Denison (Colrain, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon) netted 14 and 11 apiece.

The Engineers are idle this weekend, but return to action next Tuesday, when they travel to Poughkeepsie to take on Vassar (6pm). The Raptors host Union on Friday (6pm).
