THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's basketball team placed 11 players into the scoring column en route to a 70-37 win over Caltech in a SCIAC match-up at Gilbert arena.

Chelsey Hastigan led the Cal Lutheran charge by scoring a team high 16 points while fellow start Starla Wright chipped in a 12-point effort. Cameron Jones had a 10-point evening in 25 minutes off the bench.

The home team held the Beavers to two field goals over the first nine-plus minutes of the game in helping them build a 20-4 lead. Caltech (0-18, 0-7 SCIAC) fought back and got their deficit down to single digits courtesy of a 10-2 scoring spurt.

However, Cal Lutheran (12-6, 5-2 SCIAC) responded strongly to finish the first 20 minutes of play. With the Regals holding a 22-14 with 6:55 left until halftime, they proceeded to score the final eight points of the frame in taking a 32-14 advantage into the locker room.

In the second half the Beavers converted eight of their 19 field goal attempts (47.4 percent) but couldn't overcome an 18 turnover stanza as Cal Lutheran claimed the win.

A strong inside game aided in the Regals efforts as the home team posted a 44-29 rebounding advantage. The down low game helped them hold a 32-6 edge in paint points while posting a 19-6 advantage in second chance points.

Marlyn Moore had a team best 14 points to lead the Caltech offense. Teri Juarez, who came into the game as the conference's leading rebounder, grabbed nine boards while tallying six steals.

The Beavers travel to Whittier College on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off with the Poets.
