Montclair, NJ - Freshman forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic) scored a season-high 32 points, including 18 in the second half, and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to lead Montclair State  to a 67-51 comeback victory over Ramapo in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game Wednesday evening at the Panzer Athletic Center.

It was Montclair State's sixth straight win and fourth consecutive in conference play in improving its season record to 14-6 and 4-4 in the NJAC.

Tobie, a five-time NJAC Rookie of the Week performer, turned in her eighth 20-plus point outing and second double-double of the season. It was only the third 30-plus point game by a Red Hawk player in the last 10 years and the first since Stephanie Machin scored 31 against William Paterson College, exactly six years ago.

Ramapo, which suffered its fourth loss in its last five games in dropping to 11-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play, used spurts at the start and at the end of the first half to take the early advantage.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 10-3 lead over the opening 5:03, including five points from freshman guard Kelly Haspel (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South).

But Montclair State came back behind the play of Tobie, who scored seven of the next 10 points as MSU took the lead at 13-10 with 13:07 to play in the first half.

After three lead changes and two ties, the latter at 20-20 with 1:43 left, Ramapo closed out the period on a 10-3 run for a 30-23 halftime margin. Freshman forward Alex Milne (Howell, N.J./Howell) scored six points and junior guard Alexa Ryan (Hazlet, N.J//Raritan) added four of her team-high 14 points for the Roadrunners in the spurt.

Ramapo's lead grew to 11 points at 34-23 at the 18:50 mark of the second half. But it was MSU the rest of the way. 

The Red Hawks erased the 11-point deficit by outscoring the Roadrunners 20-9 to tie the game at 43-43 with 10:27 left. Tobie scored seven points and senior guard Jaime Ericson (Flemington, Nj / Hunterdon Central) scored seven of her nine points in the rally.

After trading baskets, MSU finished off the game on a 21-6 outburst. Tobie contributed 11 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers, over the final nine minutes.

Both teams resume play on Saturday as Montclair State visits The College of New Jersey while Ramapo hosts Rutgers University-Camden in NJAC contests.
