PASADENA, Calif. – Chapman went inside repeatedly to overcome a sluggish start en route to a 53-34 win over Caltech on Saturday evening in a non-conference women's basketball match-up at the Braun Athletic Center.

The win lifts the Panthers record to 3-3 while Caltech falls to 0-3.

Both sides had trouble finding the bottom of the basket to start the game but thanks to five early steals, the Beavers held an 8-7 lead with 11:02 left until halftime. However, the visitors turned up the pressure with a full court press and scored the game's next 20 points in taking a 27-8 lead with 4:09 left until halftime. Chapman forced Caltech into six turnovers during their scoring run in grabbing the game's momentum.

Chapman overcame a 13 turnover first half en route to a 29-13 halftime advantage. During the opening 20 minutes of action, the Panthers held a 26-2 edge in points in the paint while enjoying a 15-4 advantage in points off turnovers.

During the final frame, Caltech couldn't get closer than their 16-point halftime deficit. The Panthers grew their second half lead to as large as 25 points at 51-26 with 7:53 remaining in claiming the victory.

The Beavers recorded 14 steals while forcing Chapman into 25 turnovers. Caltech's 14 steals represented the most steals in a game for a Beaver squad since Nov. 29, 2008 when they had 14 steals against Fisher College.

Chapman's post game was dominant as they held a 42-4 advantage in points in the paint. The Chapman low post presence held a 53-31 edge in rebounding which translated into a 19-2 edge in second chance points.

Rachel Hess scored a personal best and game high 18 points while swiping a game high eight steals.

Leading the way for the Panthers was Kimi Takaoka's 14-point evening. Andrea Villanueva went for 12 points off the bench to round out the double figure scorers for Chapman.
