FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Samantha Potter recorded her seventh double-double of the season and Pacific Lutheran ended a seven-game losing streak on Saturday night with a convincing 62-48 Northwest Conference women's basketball win over the Pacific Boxers.

With the victory, the Lutes improve their overall record to 5-11 and their conference mark to 2-5. The host Boxers are now 9-7 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

PLU played perhaps its most complete game of the season, scoring the first points of the game and never trailing. Led by Potter's 10-for-17 performance, the Lutes shot 49 percent from the field (27-for-55) compared to just 28 percent (17-for-60) for the Boxers. Potter, a sophomore post who played her prep basketball in nearby Beaverton, ended the game with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Shelly Kilcup drained a three-point shot to open the scoring just 12 seconds into the game, and the Lutes were on their way. When Mackenzie Bieker hit a jumper about seven minutes in, the Lutes had a 12-2 lead. Pacific responded with seven unanswered points, but it would not get closer to the Lutes than three points for the remainder of the contest.

In fact, the Lutes led by as many as 16 points in the first half, 31-15, on Andi Adams' three-point basket with four minutes left in the period. Led by Katelyn Smith's 10 first-half points, PLU took a 33-24 lead into the halftime break.

As she had opening the game, Kilcup hit the first basket of the second half, this a two-pointer, to give the Lutes a 35-24 advantage. That double-digit lead stayed in effect for almost the entire second half, the Boxers getting their deficit under 10 points only three times. The Lutes' largest advantage came at 17 points, 59-42, on an Allie Hamilton jumper with two minutes left in the game.

Potter's 20 points led the Lutes, followed by Smith with 11. Bieker had a solid overall game for the winners with eight points, six assists and four of the team's 16 total steals.

Erica Schultz was Pacific's only player to score in double figures as she finished the game with 16 points. Schultz matched Potter's double-double as she grabbed 13 rebounds, leading the Boxers to a 43-38 advantage in that category.

PLU returns to conference action at 6 p.m. Sunday when it faces the unbeaten and No. 3-ranked George Fox Bruins in Newberg, Ore.
