NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 21, 2012 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team shot 60.3%, the third highest shooting percentage in school history, en route to a 92-81 triumph over intrastate foe New England College, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday afternoon at the Hogan Sports Center.

The Chargers improve to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the NAC. New England College drops to 13-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Colby-Sawyer was led by a career-high 30 points from junior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.). She shot 13-17 from the floor, which was one made field goal shy of tying a school record. Sophomore Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass.) went 9-14 from the floor and 5-8 from beyond the arc en route to tying a career best 23 points. Junior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) was the third Charger to reach double-figures with 20 points. She added seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

New England College senior Rachel Williams (Chapel Hill, N.C.) led all players with 32 points and 14 rebounds. She shot 13-20 and added four assists. Freshman Taylor Burgess (Randallstown, Md.) had 13 points, while junior Danika Johnson (Port Angeles, Wash.) chipped in 11 off the bench.

Colby-Sawyer shot 58.1% in the first half and was 4-6 from beyond the arc, which resulted in a 48-37 lead at the break. The Pilgrims, who experienced foul trouble in the first, stayed close by turning seven Colby-Sawyer mistakes into 15 points. The NEC bench chipped in 15 points in the first frame as they played heavy minutes due to the foul situation. Williams scored nine points in just eight minutes as she picked up two fouls. DeSanty poured in 19 first half points on 8-10 shooting to lead the Chargers.

The second half featured great shooting performances by both sides. The Chargers made 63% of their attempts, while NEC shot 52.9% from the floor. Williams was assertive in the second half as she played all 20 minutes, keeping her team close with 23 points in the frame. The Pilgrims were able to cut the deficit to five points on one occasion, but a pair of trey's and a layup quickly pushed the Chargers' lead back to 13. Fruzzetti led the Chargers with 13 second half points.
Colby-Sawyer shot 69.2% from beyond the arc (9-13), while NEC made just 7-28.  

Colby-Sawyer travels to Lyndon on Thursday for a 5:30 pm tip. New England College plays at Johnson State on Thursday also at 5:30 pm.
