POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 19, 2011) – The Vassar College women's basketball team placed five players in double figures and easily defeated Cedar Crest College, 87-40, in the opening round of the Vassar Tip-Off on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics & Fitness Center.

Buoyed by a 24-3 start, the Brewers made quick work of the Falcons in their home opener. Vassar made eight of its first nine shots. Fourteen of Vassar's first 24 points came from senior guard Brittany Parks and sophomore backcourt mate Cydni Matsuoka and the Brewers raced out to a 40-17 halftime lead, effectively putting the game out of Cedar Crest's reach.

Vassar improves to 2-0 on the season and advances to the championship game against Wellesley at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Cedar Crest drops to 0-2 and plays in the consolation game against Wilson College at 1:00 p.m. Wellesley defeated Wilson 64-35 in the second game.

On the strength of Matsuoka's game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor, the Brewers maintained a 30-point lead the majority of the second half, building a 41 point margin with six minutes to play.

Parks, who played only three minutes in the second half and just 19 for the game, finished with 15 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor. Senior Kristyn Tempora scored eight of her ten points in the second half to ensure Vassar maintained its lead and had 11 rebounds. A pair of freshmen, forward Colleen O'Connell and Nyah Berg reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. O'Connell led all rebounders with 12.

Cedar Crest, which managed just 28 percent shooting from the floor, was led by senior cener Lizzy Sunderhaus with 15 points and seven rebounds. She is 18 points shy of becoming the school's all-time leading scorer. Freshman guard DeJanet Lanton had 10 points.

Vassar's deep bench – 12 players saw action and 10 tallied points – held a 26-6 advantage over Cedar Crest. The Brewers controlled the paint, 44-10, and won the rebounding battle 57-26.
