Kitchen Leads Saints to a 68-30 PAC Win at Chatham

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Sophomore guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 68-30 win over Chatham University tonight (Wednesday, January 18, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at the Athletic & Fitness Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Cougars fall to 3-13 overall and 0-9 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to a 34-8 lead with 5:26 to play in the opening half when junior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) completed a three-point play.  Chatham closed out the half on a 10-4 run to cut the lead to 38-18 at halftime when Julianne Speeney made two free-throws with 2:15 to play in the first half.

The Saints opened the second half on a 17-2 run to extended the lead to 55-20 when junior guard/forward Lauren Hargett (Verona, Ky./Walton-Verona) made a lay-up with 11:33 to play in the game.  Chatham responded with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 57-26 with 7:33 to play in the second half when Marguerite Sargent made a jumper.  Thomas More answered with an 11-2 run capped by a three-pointer by freshman guard Stephanie Krusling (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) to give the Saints' their biggest lead of the night at 68-28 with 30-seconds to play in the game.  Chatham's Speeney made two free-throws with eight seconds to play in the game for the final score of 68-30.

Junior center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) joined Kitchen in double-figures as she finished the game with 12 points.  Sophomore forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) led the team on the boards with nine rebounds, while junior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with five and steals with five.

Thomas More will begin the second half on the PAC schedule on Saturday (January 21) when it hosts Geneva College at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
