Bethany Falls to PAC Co-Leader Saint Vincent

More news about: Bethany

The Bethany College women's basketball team went cold Wednesday night as they suffered a tough loss to Saint Vincent 70-45.

The Bison, known for averaging nearly 66 points each game this season, lost some of that heat Wednesday night against a strong Saint Vincent team (13-3, 8-1), as BC shot only 29.3% from the field. The Bearcats, who remained tied with Thomas More and Waynesburg for the top spot in the league, had the upper hand, shooting a solid 50% from the field.

Saint Vincent dominated the first half, increasing the lead by as much as a 21-point margin with 8:23 to go but Bethany, with the help of senior guard Anne Wilson, kept their determination and went into the locker room down 36-22. Wilson scored seven of her 10 points in the first half.

Bethany returned to the court at the start of the next half with a spark, as they went on a 6-0 run to put the game within eight in the first three minutes, forcing a Saint Vincent time out. That was all the Bearcats needed, as freshman guard Jessica Welch drained a three-pointer to put Saint Vincent up 39-28. The opposing side shot side 54.2% in the second half to close out the game for the Bearcats, who were led by forward Devin McGrath with 15 points and forward Brittany Sedlock who netted 14 while grabbing 12 boards.

Leading the Bethany attack was Wilson who recorded her sixth consecutive double-digit performance, while senior forward Katelynn Hackathorn added on an additional 10 points.

The Green & White now must face PAC rival Grove City (4-12, 3-6) Saturday afternoon at home. Grove City is also coming off a loss, as they dropped their Wednesday match-up versus Thiel (4-12, 4-5) 65-53. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. versus the Wolverines.
