Schiedermayer leads Macalester past St. Ben's

Holly Schiedermayer (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) posted her third double-double of the season, finishing with career-best totals of 26 pionts and 13 rebounds, and the Scots gained a 71-56 MIAC triumph over St. Benedict at the Leonard Center. 

 

Jessica Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) added 15 points and four assists for Macalester, which improves to 6-8 on the season and 4-7 in the MIAC.  Rene took advantage of her free throw chances, going 10-for-11 from the charity stripe.  Maggie Wood (Sr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) also put together a big game, providing the team with nine points and five steals.

 

Kyanna Jones (Jr.,Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) had seven points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

 
St. Ben's, now 7-7 overall and 4-7 in MIAC play, went 7-for-17 on three-point tries, but the Scots crashed the boards for 15 offensive rebounds and enjoyed a 21-13 turnover advantage.  Beka Schwendemann tallied 11 points off the bench to lead CSB.  The Blazers blocked seven shots and had 35 points from their bench.
Leading by a point at 16-15, the Scots began a 21-8 run to go on top 37-23 with 4:47 remaining in the opening period.  Mac led 39-31 at the break and dominated the second half, boosting its advantage to 24 points at 67-43 with 3:12 to play.
 

The Scots travel to Moorhead Wednesday (Jan. 18) to take on Concordia.
