Providence, R.I.-Senior forward and reigning Little East Conference Player of the Week Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) posted 18 points and eight rebounds as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team throttled UMass Dartmouth, 62-23, at The Murray Center on Tuesday.

With the win, RIC (13-2, 6-0 LEC) extended its winning streak to 10 games, while keeping its grasp on sole possession of first place in the conference.

Once again, the Anchorwomen used lockdown defense to shut down their opponent, as UMD (9-6, 2-4 LEC) shot just 12 percent (8-for-67) from the field and committed 22 turnovers. The 23 points scored and 12 percent shooting effort from the floor were both Little East Conference season-lows. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, the Anchorwomen shot 37 percent from the floor (26-for-70) as 10 different players recorded a point for the hosts.

After UMD junior guard Erica Batchelder (Stoughton, MA) sank a three-pointer 52 seconds into the game to stake the visitors to a 3-1 lead, the Corsairs did not score again until freshman guard Nicole Grassi (Plymouth, MA) converted a free throw to make it a 14-4 game at the 7:40 mark, a span of 11:28. RIC went into halftime leading 35-8 and never looked back.

"Team defense was the key again," said Head Coach Marcus Reilly. "I was pleased with the defensive intensity from all 15 players. We went through some rough patches offensively, but we worked ourselves out of it by sharing the ball and making the extra pass at a very high level with 21 assists on 26 baskets."

Senior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) tallied 12 points, eight boards and five steals for RIC, while senior guard Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, RI) added 11 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals. Junior guard Ashley O'Dell (Lincoln, RI) chipped in with six points, six boards, five assists and four steals in the win.

Junior center Colleen Moriarty (Canton, MA) registered 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Corsairs, while junior guard Erica Batchelder (Stoughton, MA) contributed with six points and four boards. Freshman guard Kelsey Garrity (Somerville, MA) added two points and seven rebounds in the loss.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against Plymouth State on Saturday, Jan. 21 (1 p.m.).
