Wilson College Edged Lady Lions in Final Seconds

Penn State Abington gave Wilson College all it could handle on Wednesday night, but the Phoenix rallied in the second half to defeat the Lady Lions 57-55 in a NEAC conference women's basketball matchup.
 
With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 0-10 and 0-3 in the NEAC Conference on the season.
 
It was a back-and-forth first half that featured a hard fought battle for the lead.   The Lady Lions took their first biggest lead of the game at three points at 21-13 on a layup from Kate Schalck with 7:37 left, but Wilson went on a 10-0 run to end the period and tie at 23 apiece at the intermission.
 
The Lady Lions, however, kept battling and went neck to neck to start the second half, until Wilson retook the lead at 37-32 on Vanessa Whitfield's basket with 13:22 remaining in the second stanza.
 
The Lady Lions pushed for the lead late into the second half as Trish Watson netted six points with 2:37 remaining.
 
Whitfield completed a layup to retake the lead 57-55 and sealed the win seal with 4.2 seconds remaining
 
For Abington, Watson led the team with 19 points. Freshman Gabrielle Benedict totaled 12 points and seven rebounds, while fellow classmate Kate Schalck also tallied eight rebounds and six points.
 
Abington will return to action in two days for another NEAC back-to-back weekend, hosting Cazenovia College at 3 p.m. on Saturday before facing SUNYIT at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
