Augsburg scores 61-51 victory over St. Olaf

MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring a season-high 21 points with eight rebounds, Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) led the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 61-51 victory over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

Levine scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc, in the second half. Levine connected on 7-of-9 shooting from the field in the game, while also contributing three assists, a blocked shot and two steals.

Brittany Dyshaw (JR, Eagan, Minn.) scored nine points with four steals and a blocked shot for Augsburg (7-5 overall, 4-5 MIAC). The seven wins are the most for Augsburg since the 2007-08 season (7-18 overall). Kandace Bostick (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Burnsville HS) scored eight points and pulled down four rebounds, while Lexi Thompson (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had six points.

St. Olaf (9-3 overall, 6-3 MIAC) was led by Brittany Webber (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./Lion's Gate Academy), who scored 11 points with nine rebounds. Mackenzie Wolter (JR, Norwood-Young America, Minn./Central HS) and Kirstee Rotty (JR, Farmington, Minn.) scored seven points each, with Wolter adding five assists and Rotty adding five rebounds.

A 16-2 run over the final 9:53 of the first half gave Augsburg a 23-13 lead at the halftime break, a lead the Auggies would stretch to as many as 15 points early in the second half. The Oles trimmed the lead to 32-26 with 13:31 left, but back-to-back three-pointers by Levine gave the Auggies a 12-point advantage, 38-26, with 12:33 left. The lead again was cut to six points with 4:02 left, but the Auggies connected on 10-of-14 free throws in the final stretch en route to the win. Augsburg hit 19-of-31 from the free-throw line in the game.

Augsburg hit 37.3 percent (19-of-51) from the field in the game, while limiting St. Olaf to just 29.6 percent (16-of-54) in the game. The Auggies forced 23 Ole turnovers, which they converted into 17 points, while the Oles converted 13 Auggie turnovers into 10 points. St. Olaf outrebounded Augsburg by a 46-35 margin.

Both teams return to action on Saturday (1/10) at 3 p.m., with the Auggies hosting St. Mary's and the Oles hosting St. Benedict.
