POTSDAM, N.Y. – Junior guard Maliqua Fisher (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) dropped in a season-high 24 points off 10-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 shooting from the free-throw line, pacing the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team's (5-7, 3-2 SUNYAC) attack in a 70-52 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over SUNY Potsdam (4-8, 2-4 SUNYAC) on Tuesday evening at Welsh Gymnasium.

Fisher filled up the stat sheet, as she corralled a career-high nine steals and collected a game-high eight rebounds and three assists as well. Junior forward Alex McCullough (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) joined Fisher in double figures with 13 points, while senior forward Shanay Bradley (Bronx, N.Y./New Explorers) also chipped in offensively with eight points. Sophomore point guard Pippa Mansdorf (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) came off the bench to dish out a team-high four assists.

For Potsdam, three players scored in double figures, with Jessica Kouzan leading the way with 12 points and Hannah Kmiecinski and Katy Briedis contributing 11 points each. Kouzan also boasted a game-high two blocks, while Bailey Weigel pulled down a team-high six boards.

New Paltz shot 41.5 percent (27-of-65) from the floor on the contest compared to Potsdam's 34.6 percent (18-of-52) clip, and the Hawks also held a 48-33 edge on the glass. New Paltz erased its free-throw shooting woes, going 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) from the charity stripe.

The Bears never led, as senior guard Caitlin Irwin (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) opened scoring with a three-pointer to give the Hawks the early lead, and Fisher made it a 10-point game at 13:00 of the first half after a pair of made free throws. Midway through the first period, New Paltz went on a 9-0 run, during which five different players scored. Potsdam trimmed the lead down to 12 twice, but New Paltz closed the first stanza on a 6-0 run, and a Fisher free throw at 1:02 of the first half gave the Hawks the 41-22 halftime edge.

Both teams traded points throughout most of second half, and the Hawks achieved their largest margin of the game (23) on three separate occasions, the last of which came off a three-pointer from freshman guard/forward Monique Myers (New York City, N.Y./Richard R. Green) at 2:02 of the second half. The Bears scored the final few baskets of the contest, as Sophie Parks hit a jumper, Kmiecinski knocked down a pair of free throws and Adedoyin Akingba hit one free throw to end the game with an 18-point deficit.

New Paltz travels to the Syracuse area this weekend for two SUNYAC games, contesting SUNY Oswego at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, and taking on SUNY Cortland at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.
